GEM 80 MICROGEM Controllers.
The smallest of GEM 80 controllers the MICROGEM or specifically the MICROGEM or the later MICROGEM60 were poduced by GEC Industrial Controls from the late 1980’s to the early 1990’s when the Alspa range of PLC systems replaced these small controllers.
Programmed with a small Hand Held Programmer (HHP) or and optional system programmer interface unit the base controller had 12 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs. Microgem expansion units were also available to expand this I/O count. These are connected to the expansion port on the right hand side of the unit. The original Microgem could have 1 expansion unit to support 40 digital I/O points and 1000 instructions. The Microgem60 can support up to 160 digital I/O points and store 2000 instructions.
The on board RAM used a replaceable lithium backup battery to support the program, but an optional EEPROM module is available to permanently store the user control program.
Optional serial communication units are also available to allow the Microgem to connect to all other GEM 80 controllers for the transfer of data.
