Do you need to get your GEM 80 PLC data into a SCADA system via a GEMLAN-T module?

There are still OPC options available for an Ethernet connection using GEMLAN-T modules on a GEM 80 400 or the Ethernet sub module on a GEM 80 500 controller.

Historically there have been a few OPC servers developed for GEM 80 PLC systems. Applicon developed the original OPC server but it required you to use their bespoke hardware card in your PC to connect to the GEM 80. These cards have now been obsolete for many years now so this isn’t normally an option for the future.

The later versions of firmware for the GEMLAN-T module support Modbus over Ethernet communications. Because of this a standard Modbus OPC server can be used, these can easily be found for under £1000. The limit is the type of data tables these servers can link to. Only those mapped in the Modbus mappings for the GEMLAN-T card such as G and W tables are available via this server.

There are other dedicated GEM 80 OPC servers still available, compatible with Windows 10 should you require this. They are more expensive than the Modbus over Ethernet option but it does allow you to link any of your GEM 80 data tables to your SCADA system via OPC.
