When the Siemens S7 1500 was first released Siemens official advice was that: “The new S7 1500 system supplements the existing S7 300/400 systems. S7 300, S7 400 and S7 1500 will be sold in parallel in the coming years. The S7 300/400 systems will not be phased out before the year 2020. The latest news on the product lifecycle for the SIMATIC S7 300/ET 200M system families is that: “The SIMATIC S7-300/ET 200M system families are part of our established product range and will definitely be available until 2023. Upon publication of a product phase-out announcement, the respective product will be available as a spare part for a period of ten more years”.

The power PLC the S7 400 systems have even better news that they will be supported until the year 2030. This is because of their use in PCS7 and fault tolerant applications that as yet aren’t currently available in the S7 1500 range of controllers.
